Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating a Cortex account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. Cortex is operated by Jake Schorr as a sole proprietor.

2. Early-stage software

Cortex is in active early development, currently open to a small group of invited users. Features may change, break, or be removed without notice, and we don't guarantee uptime. If something breaks, tell us — that feedback is a large part of why you have early access.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Cortex. SMS and call features require a US phone number you own and can verify.

4. Your account

You're responsible for the security of your login and for what happens under your account. Don't share your account with anyone else.

5. Acceptable use

Cortex is for your own personal notes and reflection. Don't use it to store or transmit unlawful content, to abuse the SMS/call channel (e.g., to contact anyone other than yourself), or to try to access another user's data or disrupt the service.

6. AI-generated content

Summaries, wiki pages, and answers Cortex gives you are generated by AI models based on what you've told it. Cortex is built to say "I don't know" rather than guess, but AI output can still be wrong or incomplete. Don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or other decisions requiring professional advice, and always verify anything important yourself.

7. Texting and calling

SMS and voice-call features are opt-in and governed by the consent terms described in our Privacy Policy. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out of texts by replying STOP, and disable calls at any time in Settings.

Mobile opt-in data is never shared for marketing. Your phone number and your SMS consent status are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. We share your number only with the telecommunications providers required to deliver the messages you requested (currently Telnyx).

8. Your data

You own your content. You can export it or permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings — see the Privacy Policy for what "delete" actually removes.

9. Termination

You can stop using Cortex and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate the acceptable-use terms above.

10. No warranty; limitation of liability

Cortex is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, during this early-access period. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cortex and its operator aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

11. Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes; the date above reflects the latest revision.
